Highlights of travel time was Trey being selected to get 'wanded down" and 'frisked" after going through the metal detector in Geneva. We aren't entirely sure what set it off, but it was most likely his Ray Bans that he forgot to take off, or the metal from his retainer inside his mouth. Other memorable moment was at same airport when Ed found a 'suspicious' power outlet and asked to use my adapter and iPhone to try it out. Sparks flew everywhere and adapter plug with cord turned black and smokey! Super grateful no one got electrocuted. Funny thing is, Ed wanted to blame Trey for plugging it in, but Trey actually plugged it in to a good outltet and Ed unplugged it and tried the one next to it which sent sparks flying.
Travel complaints: Of course they were about United Airlines when they tried to charge us $75 for three bags (not additional mind you, we only brought 3 bags) because they said our flight was going to Newark and not straight through to Europe!- for those that don't know, United only charges for baggage when you travel domestically, but not Internationally. Then they called us out on one of our bags literally being 4 pounds over weight (@54 pounds). For that, they wanted to charge us an additional $225! We managed to get out of that by shuffling around some items to redistribute the weight. Ed blames it on my extra jeans that I overpacked, but I think it was more likely that bottle of wine he packed to bring to Uncle Andrew and Aunt Andrea in London (2008 Marcien, our niece, Ashtyn's birth year).
We are staying at our Marriott timeshare (Playa Andaluza). We drove in our rental for an hour from Malaga. Probably would have gotten there sooner if we hadnt gotten confused at the round-a-bouts, and hadn't driven though small towns instead of main highways ;-) Drive was not beautiful even though it was the coast. Architecture is pretty modern, not much landscaping. Ed says it is the African and Middle Eastern influence that we are noticing. Boys and I slept most of the drive (thank goodness Ed was awake as driver). We did pass a castle on the way to the hotel.
Marriott's Playa Andaluza is really well done. The kids are loving all the amenities: mini golf, waterslides, indoor pools, outdoor pools, beach access, multiple kid play areas with tennis courts, basketball courts, pool tables, ping pong, life size chess board.... Rooms are well laid out, very spacious with beautiful balcony with even a small ocean view! Boys love that there are two twin beds in their room instead of one queen size bed. (Its all about real estate for them).
Ed and I enjoyed a celebratory pitcher of sangria by the pool. Well, actually let me correct that and say 2 pitchers...It happened to be happy hour (2 for 1) and I was too jet lagged to change it to two glasses instead of two pitchers. Way better price than America would charge @ $15 for 2 pitchers!
Here is a photo tour of the Marriott, thanks to Ed (He woke up before the tourists did!)
